Authorities are saying that the University of Texas at Austin received a bomb threat at 8:45 this morning. According to KXAN News in Austin, the man spoke with a “middle eastern accent” and said that he was with Al Qaeda. He said that there were bombs placed throughout the campus and would be detonated this morning.
All buildings on campus have been evacuated and are being searched for bombs. Students have been told via emergency notifications (e-mail, text, Twitter updates) to stay away from campus.
In the latest update from the official UT Austin Twitter account, “Time specified in phone threat has passed but we have not yet cleared all buildings. Decision to resume operations and classes will come shortly.”
